Thermography Visual Inspection

Non-intrusive identification of thermal stresses

Thermography is a non-intrusive diagnostic method which visualises and quantifies changes in assets’ surface temperatures.

Using infrared technology, it offers a quick and unintrusive way of surveying the health of switchgear and transformers, often indicating potential faults or hotspots within assets without requiring de-energisation. Faults which can be identified include a variety of issues such as corroded connections or imbalance between phase loads.

Thermography is relevant for use with transformers, switchgear, and cable accessories such as terminations, sealing ends & joints; assets which can exhibit temperature anomalies when under stress. To conduct a thermographic inspection, an infrared camera is used. By capturing differences in infrared radiation, this data can be analysed to locate and assess any heat spots.
