Working through the HVPD Kronos® Spot Tester, the MCSA software is able to diagnose problems with a motor. Utilised alongside On-line Partial Discharge testing, this can mean that faults can be pre-empted, and preventative maintenance carried out.
MCSA testing is non-intrusive, and is carried out by analysing the frequency content of the 50/60 Hz current waveform through the motor. The software can detect electrical problems with the rotor, as well as broken rotor bars, and dynamic/static eccentricity.
Ultimately, MCSA is another tool that allows users to track the performance of an asset and react accordingly to prevent unplanned outages.
Alex Polley, Director – Principal Software Engineer, said: “Being able to offer our customers MCSA software to boost the capabilities of their HVPD Kronos® Spot Tester unit is another indication of HVPD’s commitment to continued investment in research and development.”
The software upgrade package means that customers will be able to perform MCSA measurements as part of their existing range of services, bringing a vital testing skill-set in house.
