HVPD Ltd presents the latest addition to our integrated range of technologies for the insulation condition monitoring of high voltage plant, the new new 16-Channel HVPD Multi Portable™ Monitor
The HVPD Multi Portable ™ Monitor is an on-line 16-channel, condition monitoring device suitable for the on-line measurement and monitoring of Partial Discharge (PD) activity in medium voltage (6.6kV to 45kV) substations, without outages of 50/60Hz high voltage power supply. Partial Discharge activity is produced by incipient faults in medium voltage and high voltage insulation and is widely regarded as the best indicator of the deterioration of medium voltage and high voltage insulation.
The HVPD Multi Monitor unit has been designed as a stand-alone, remote-access PD monitor for both temporary & long-term monitoring of PD activity in the medium voltage cables and switchgear. The unit is suitable for installation in electricity distribution substations for extended periods of time (of between 24 hours up to 12 months) to log and trend PD data on the MV cables, switchgear and other MV plant to which the on-line PD sensors are attached.
The PD monitoring data is stored locally in the unit's hard disk and can be viewed by the Field Engineer on the unit's 12" LCD screen. This data can be remotely downloaded using the HVPD Multi Portable Monitor's built-in HSPDA modem module. Data files are automatically downloaded to the HVPD FTP server in Manchester, UK and access to these data files is provided to the customer via a password-protected, secure link to the server.
The HVPD Multi Portable can be used in Phase 3 of the HVPD Integrated PD Test and Monitoring Solution.

Key Functions
The HVPD Multi Portable™ Monitor is a 16-channel PD monitoring system capable of automatically detecting and monitoring On-Line Partial Discharge (PD) activity in all types of medium voltage (MV) cables and switchgear.
The unit is portable and of a rugged construction and designed for monitoring in the substation. All testing functions are integrated into a hand-carry system. Software for the unit is installed into a built-in PC and the system also has 'Reader' software for use on any PC.
The system can capture signals On-Line, without outages of the 50/60Hz HV power supply. The system should be able to automatically differentiate pulses received into 3x types (Cable PD, Local/Switchgear PD and Noise). The software is able to filter out noise whilst preserving the PD pulses based on pulse-shape and frequency analysis.
The system has a minimum data-acquisition rate of 100MS/s (2 Million Samples per 50Hz power cycle at a rate of 1 sample per 10ns) in order to allow the shape of the PD pulse shapes to be visualised by the user - for manual checking.
The system data is recorded in an Open-File Based Format to allow the processed data to be transferred to a database if required.
User Interface
Locally or externally using built in VGA Monitor or via the internet using a Web browser
The device can be set up for monitoring locally whilst the sensors are attached to the unit or remotely if an internet connection is available. The setup procedure is performed by completing a web based form which contains all of the pertinent information - where sensors are connected, how long the test is to run for etc.
