Next week will mark the 30th Anniversary of the Piper Alpha disaster, a tragedy which resulted in the loss of 167 people working on the Piper Alpha North Sea Oil & Gas production platform.

To raise funds for the Piper Alpha Memorial Gardens in Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen, the Pound for Piper charity and 167 Souls fundraising group have commissioned a special Oil & Gas version of the Monopoly board game; all sales proceeds will go to supporting the upkeep of the gardens, which is entirely dependent on charitable donations.

HVPD Commercial Director, Rachel Oates, commented: “HVPD is very proud to support the Piper Alpha Memorial Garden fund, which is a permanent, physical reminder of one of the worst tragedies to befall our industry. Anyone who remembers the disaster, or who is even remotely familiar with offshore working, will be able to appreciate both the seriousness and the magnitude of what happened.”

“The 167 Souls fundraising target of £69,000 will help ensure the upkeep of the memorial gardens for years to come, and that’s why we would encourage anybody with a connection to the North Sea industry to contribute, if they are able to.”

A special memorial service is being held for the victims at Hazlehead Park on Friday 6th July from 7pm. Offshore workers who are unable to attend will be able to stream the service via the UK Oil and Gas Chaplaincy Facebook page.
